    Last Post and Reveille

    April 22, 2014

Cornetter Stephen O'Malley and Percussionist Joe O'Mahony performing the Last Post and Reveille for the Fallen of the 1916 Rising.

The 98th Commemoration of The 1916 Easter Rising was opened by The Cork Butter Exchange Brass & Reed Band performing a selection of Irish Marches including: The Dawning, A Nation Once Again, The Boys of Wexford and An Realta Thuaig.  The Friendship Singers sang accompanied by a Flautist the hymn: Nearer My God to Thee.

Mr. Kevin Davis made the introduction to the cermony, he was followed by an address from the Lord Mayor Cclr Catherine Clancy on behalf of the Cork City Council and the Citizens of Cork.

Mr. Kevin Davis lay a wreath at the National Monument on behalf of the relatives and friends who served during 1916 - 1923.  The Friendship Singers performed Sean O Riada's: Ag Críost an Síol.

Following the wreath laying, Mr. Domhnall MacCarthaigh read the Irish Proclaimation (as Gailge) to all present.

The Friendship Singers performed the hymn: Faith of our Fathers.  This was followed by the Buttera's own Stephen O'Malley and Percussionist Joe O'Mahony performing the Last Post and Reveille.

The Cermony was brought to a close by the Band performing and all present singing: Amhran ná bhFiann.

I fitting end to an important commemoration, lest we forget.
